Already have a Recreational Pilots Licence or other Pilots Licence? Want to improve your skill and confidence and have lots of fun whilst doing so? Or perhaps you would like to take up competition aerobatic flying? Then come and see the aerobatic experts at Red Baron about achieving your aerobatics rating. No previous aerobatic experience is required.
Surprisingly, aerobatics are relatively simple and any pilot is capable of doing them. Within the first 20 minutes of one of our Hands on Aerobatic Experience flights the customer is performing loop the loops and rolling the aircraft unassisted, never having previously flown before. However to fly them safely and to a high standard you need quality training.
Our quality and standard of training is simply the best. We can take you right from the very beginning through to competition level, all at your own pace. We do not offer unrealistic and dangerous courses which claim to make you an aerobatic pilot in five flights flying a Cessna 150, Citabria or Decathalon type aircraft.
We conduct the following aerobatic training courses.
BASIC AEROBATICS COURSE (BAC) - CASR Part 61 Aerobatic and Spinning Flight Activity Endorsement
This course is comprised of nine lessons and conducted in the Alpha 160A. The BAC incorporates all elements of our Upset Recovery Course. At the completion of this course you will attain CASR Part 61 Aerobatic and Spin Flight Activity Endorsements. You will be able to perform your newly acquired aerobatic manoeuvres and fully developed spins with passengers on board above 3000ft.
In addition to these manoeuvres you will also learn advanced aircraft control techniques, emergency manoeuvre training, recognition of and escape from mishandled manoeuvres and dynamic stalls and spins in any attitude or situation. These skills are an essential part of aerobatic flying which also improve your general flying ability and confidence. The BAC will lay the foundation for your future aerobatic development.
BAC COURSE COST - $4,848* (including GST)
*Estimated cost includes all flights, briefings, video debriefs, tutorials, Airservices Australia and airport landing fees. Since our aim is to produce a confident and competent pilot we train to a standard, not a set price, so the final figure may vary for each student. Any remedial training will be charged at the standard rates. No up front payment or deposit is required.
INTERMEDIATE AEROBATICS COURSE (IAC)
The IAC comprises of the following manoeuvres:
- Barrel Rolls
- Slow Rolls
- Cuban Eights
The IAC is conducted in the Alpha 160A and provides the foundation for aerobatic competition sequence flying. The Basic Aerobatics Course (BAC) is a prerequisite for pilots wishing to do the IAC.
As each manoeuvre is approved individually and additional practice may be required prior to the standard competencies being reached there is no set course cost. Each manoeuvre requires a pre-flight long brief and each lesson is charged at our standard rates.
ADVANCED AEROBATICS COURSE (AAC)
The AAC builds on the IAC and focuses on more advanced competition aerobatic manoeuvres, energy management, geographic positioning and orientation. At the conclusion of this course pilots will be recommended for a CASR Part 61 1500ft Aerobatic Flight Activity endorsement.
Advanced Aerobatics Course manoeuvres include:
- Roll off the Top
- Competition Spin
- Snap Rolls
- Split S
The AAC is conducted using the Alpha 160A and an upgrade to the Pitts Special or Extra 200 is available following this course.
As each manoeuvre is approved individually and additional practice may be required prior to the standard competencies reached there is no set course cost. Each manoeuvre requires a pre-flight long brief and each lesson is charged at our standard rates.
LOW LEVEL AEROBATICS FLIGHT ACTIVITY ENDORSEMENTS
These endorsements enable a pilot to fly an aerobatic sequence at altitudes below 1500 feet. Tuition further concentrates on more advanced and dynamic competition manoeuvres, energy management, geographic positioning and orientation. At the conclusion of this training pilots may be recommended for a CASR Part 61 1000ft or 500ft Aerobatic Flight Activity endorsement.
Red Baron Flight Training encourages students to compete in both our in-house competitions and those conducted at the regional, state and national level by the Australian Aerobatic Club. Information, support and guidance are provided to all students looking to compete in these competitions.
Red Baron Aerobatics Competitions are scheduled throughout the year. These comps are great for pilots who are new to the aeros scene as they are low pressure and a lot of fun. We have competitors from all levels so don't be shy... you might surprise yourself. Our in-house comps are also great practice for those seasoned aerobatics competitors.
Check our News & Events for our next aeros comp or see the Red Baron Aerobatics Schedule for future comp dates and aerobatics sequences. All are welcome. If you haven't flown with us before we can arrange a safety pilot so you can join in. Contact us to register your interest.
